Peanut Butter Pumpkin Smoothie

Inspired by the classic Reese’s cup but perked up for fall, this smoothie is a perfect combination of chocolate, peanut butter and our fall favorite, pumpkin.

Craving something sweet, satisfying (and healthy) for breakfast? This festive fall smoothie will remind you of your favorite Halloween candy, with a fraction of the sugar, PLUS it includes a powerhouse pairing of probiotics and prebiotics for digestive health and immune support. “Candy” for breakfast has never been so healthy!

 

Ingredients:

 

 

  • ½ cup pumpkin puree, frozen (for extra frothiness)
  • 1 cup vanilla, unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 packet GoLive® Flavorless Probiotic & Prebiotic blend
  • 1 handful of spinach (optional)
  • 1 serving protein powder

Directions:

  1. Place ½ cup pumpkin puree into ziplock bag, freeze overnight
  2. The morning of, add almond milk and frozen pumpkin puree into blender and blend until smooth
  3. Add all other ingredients blend, and enjoy!

We opted to use unsweetened cocoa powder to get that chocolately goodness without the fat and sugar. Additionally, cocoa powder can pack in up to 2g of fiber per tablespoon! Talk about bonus digestive and heart health benefits.

Peanut butter is loaded with heart healthy unsaturated fats. These types of healthy fats can help to lower blood cholesterol, reduce risk of heart disease and increase satiety, indirectly helping you you’re your weight maintenance goals. No more drinking your morning smoothie only to hear your stomach growl 30 minutes later. Dietitian tip: when shopping for peanut butter, be sure to look for a brand without hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils (hydrogenated oils are a code word for trans fat).
